CPR & First Aid Training

All foster parents shall be certified in CPR and First Aid every three years through a nationally recognized training organization or by an equivalent certified trainer. Foster parents shall maintain a certificate indicating the date of training and expiration. Current foster homes who are licensed by October 1, 2009 must complete the training by October 1, 2010. All foster parents shall complete training in CPR and First Aid in the ten months of licensure. Internet training classes, including part internet/part in-person classes will NOT fulfill your CPR and First Aid training requirement.

IFAPA understands that this is a new requirement that DHS has issued for foster families; however, please be aware that IFAPA is not able to provide enough CPR trainings to accommodate all of the foster families in Iowa. Due to the equipment needed and ratios of trainer to trainee required by the Red Cross and American Heart Association, classes are bound to fill up quickly.

Upcoming CPR & First Aid Classes Offered by IFAPA

IFAPA’s CPR and First Aid class is designed to give you the confidence to respond in an emergency situation with skills that can save a life. IFAPA’s CPR & First Aid training classes are presented by CPR and First Aid certified trainers and have been approved by DHS as an approved training for foster parents. The IFAPA CPR & First Aid Classes listed below are a combined course of both topics and the training will take place on one day. In order to receive credit for taking this class, you must attend the entire class. IFAPA cannot give partial credit for those who only want CPR or First Aid.
