Types of Adoptions:

Adoption can be accomplished through several means. Depending on the avenue and type of child you would like to adopt, there are different contact sources and requirements.  To learn about the different types of adoptions, click here.

 

 

Iowa KidsNet:

Iowa KidsNet is a statewide collaboration of agencies dedicated to the safety and permanency of children and families. The organization is currently providing services to address the urgent need for foster and adoptive families.  Iowa KidsNet utilizes a unique, cohesive approach to provide recruitment, training, licensing and support to current and potential foster and adoptive families. They partner with various agencies, the Department of Human Services and families to achieve the best possible outcomes for children.

 

 

Iowa Association of Adoption Agencies (IAAA):

IAAA is a volunteer association of adoption professionals who are united in their professional and personal dedication to children. Members of IAAA make a commitment to provide the highest quality of service to children and families.  The members of this association offer various adoption options including Special Needs Adoption, International Adoption, and Domestic Infant Adoption. Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS):

DHS is responsible for approving families to become foster and adoptive families.  They are also responsible for the selection of approved families for placement of Iowa's foster and adoptive children.

 

 

AdoptUsKids:

www.adoptuskids.org

AdoptUsKids is a federally funded initiative that includes a national photolisting service on which many of Iowa's waiting children are listed.  Approved adoptive families can register themselves on this website.  Once your registration is approved, you are given access to 1) Search for children who match the profile you define in your registration, and 2) Create and save a private listing of children you have found listed on AdoptUsKids, including Iowa children.

 

 

Elevate - Desire to Inspire:

Elevate is a group of young people who are former or current members of the Iowa foster care system.  They seek to increase the public's understanding and compassion regarding the needs of foster and adoptive teens by sharing their personal stories of hope.

 

 

National Adoption Day:

National Adoption Day is a collective national effort to raise awareness of the 114,000 children in foster care waiting to find permanent, loving families. For the last seven years, National Adoption Day has made the dreams of thousands of children come true by working with courts, judges, attorneys, adoption professionals, child welfare agencies and advocates to finalize adoptions and find permanent, loving homes for children in foster care.  National Adoption Day is celebrated every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

 

 

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption:

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption focuses on increasing adoption awareness while supporting model adoption service programs.

 

 

The Adoption-Friendly Workplace Program:

The goal of the Adoption-Friendly Workplace initiative is to encourage employers to offer adoption benefits and to help employees find out how to advocate for benefits in the workplace. The program is sponsored by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and the National Adoption Center.

Casey Family Programs:

Casey Family Services today offers a broad range of programs for vulnerable children and families throughout the Northeast and in Baltimore, Maryland.  This website contains many helpful publications regarding foster care, adoption and working with youth.

North American Council on Adoptable Children:

NACAC offers resources and articles for people who are currently, or who are considering adoption.  The resources include parenting transracially, policy issues, post-adoption support and parenting techniques.   

 

 

National Council for Adoption:

NCFA works to promote adoption through facts, resources, education and advocacy.

 

 

Adoption Policy Resource Center:
